“SACRED GATE WITH THE SEAL OF
INNER VISION”

115 x 90 cm.
Mixed media on Belgian linen.

This canvas mirrors the power of Amitabha, one of the five Dhyani Buddha's.

This is the Buddha of clear vision, of spiritual discernment, of insight and clarity through meditation.
Transcending intellectual analytical understanding, this can also be seen as direct and intuitive consciousness and knowing. Just like the quality of light, which in its illuminating nature, makes everything visible.

Amitabha is related to the colour red, to light, and to the element fire, the fire of spiritual dedication and aspiration.
A deep red light emanates from his heart.
His symbol is the open lotus flower. This flower finds its origin in the darkness of the mud, but grows to finally become a precious symbol of pureness and spiritual awakening. This growing is a result of meditation, and as such Amitabha's hands are portrayed either in a meditating gesture or holding a lotus flower.

The large eye, taking its shape from the circles at the bottom half of the painting (the material, earthly) and those of the upper part (the spiritual, heavenly), becomes the seal of "direct vision through meditation" of this sacred gate.
