BUDDHA'S FULL MOON AT
MOUNT KAILASH
100 x 75 cm.
Mixed media on Belgian linen.
Buddha's birth, enlightenment and death, all took place at the time of full moon.
Every year during the full moon of Buddha's enlightenment there is the Saga Dawa festival at Mt. Kailash in Western Tibet. During this celebration the Tarboche flagpole is erected.
On this painting we see a red robed person standing in a boat on the holy Lake Mansarovar, at the feet of the mountain. This boat is decorated with Tibetan symbols and prayer verses. As such it represents the Buddhist concept of Mahayana, the big boat, which offers space to all sentient beings on their path.
The person receives with open prayerful arms the blessings of all Buddha's and Boddhisattva's, which appear at the top of Mt. Kailash in the moonlight.
