THE GRAIL
60 x 50 cm.
Acrylics and Indian embroidery on Belgian linen.
A grail is an archetypes in its form and function.
It appears in many religious ceremonies and occurs in relation to various profound stories and myths (for instance as the Holy Grail in Christian legend).
The grail depicted on this painting has three distinct parts. The bottom part widens itself towards the earth, the top part opens up to the sky, and the middle part connects these two. Along the central vertical axis, seven levels can be seen in the form of concentric circles. They represent the seven energy centers in man. The fourth center, also called the heart chakra, connects the higher and lower energy centers, connecting heaven and earth
Furthermore, as a grail's function is related to the element water in a transcendental way, it symbolizes the spiritual fulfillment of the heart.
